we receive adoption as sons

January 1, 2019 6:00 am

“When the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to ransom those under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. As proof that you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying out, ‘Abba, Father!’ So you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son then also an heir, through God.” (GAL 4: 4-7)

We “are no longer slaves but sons, and if sons then also heirs, through God.” Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lady, the Mother of God. She is also our Mother because we are Our Lord’s brothers and sisters, so we are also God’s children. We are never alone, abandoned or rejected; we are always loved, protected and connected.

“In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets; in these last days, he has spoken to us through the Son.” (Gospel Acclamation)
