the ground around it

“’For three years now I have come in search of fruit on this fig tree but have found none. So cut it down. Why should it exhaust the soil?’ He said to him in reply, ‘Sir, leave it for this year also, and I shall cultivate the ground around it and fertilize it; it may bear fruit in the future. If not you can cut it down.’” (LK 13: 7-9)

We learn from our Programs how important it is to protect our relationship with our spouse — stronger relationship, the strongest is our children and our relationship with others. Today’s Gospel recommends to us also the importance of “the ground around”; it is better when we have a good community where we can go regularly and meet people who think the same way as we do. Our Marriage Harbor helps us to grow, because it (the harbor) not only “cultivates the ground around it” but also “fertilize it.”

“I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked man, says the Lord, but rather in his conversion that he may live.” (Gospel Acclamation)
