The fruit of the Spirit

“In contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” (GAL 5: 22-23)

Loved by God, we receive everything from Him; He takes care of every element of our lives. When we invite the Holy Spirit into our hearts, He comes with “the fruit of the Spirit”: “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self control.” Paul contrasts the works of the flesh with the fruit (not “works”) of the Spirit. Not law, nor our work, but the Holy Spirit leads us to such traits.

“My sheep hear my voice, says the Lord; I know them, and they follow me.” (Gospel Acclamation)
