Peter and his companions

August 6, 2019 8:12 am

“Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but becoming fully awake,  they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.” (LK 9: 32)

Peter was invited to all of the important moments of Our Lord’s life. That doesn’t mean that he was the best one or the one who deserved the most-he had his moments of weakness. “Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep.” He was there with “his companions” because they were invited and chosen not because of their past but because of their future-their mission in the world. Whatever happens in our lives is for a reason, and mostly it’s because of our missions: be the best spouses, best parents, and best friends.

“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to him.” (Gospel Acclamation)
