No prophet is accepted in his own native place

“Jesus said to the people in the synagogue at Nazareth: ‘Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place.” (LK 4: 24)

Why do we need prophets in our days? Because a prophet is not one who speaks about the future but is one who speaks for God. Their role is to remind us that we live in God’s presence, that we are His beloved children and that we should “hope in the Lord and trust in his word.”

“I hope in the LORD, I trust in his word; with him there is kindness and plenteous redemption.” (Gospel Acclamation)
