Moses kept his hands raised up

“As long as Moses kept his hands raised up, Israel had the better of the fight, but when he let his hands rest, Amalek had the better of the fight. Moses’ hands, however, grew tired; so they put a rock in place for him to sit on.  Meanwhile Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other, so that his hands remained steady till sunset.” (EX 17: 11-12)

Probably everyone has discovered in her or his lives the beauty of intercessory prayer. Every mother and every father can recall praying for their children to protect them, grandparents praying for their grandchildren, spouses praying for each other and consecrated people praying for the Church and all her needs. In our everyday experience, we need to support or need to be supported, like Aaron and Hur “supported Moses’s hands, one on one side and one on the other, so that his hands remained steady till sunset.”

“The word of God is living and effective, discerning reflections and thoughts of the heart.” (Gospel Acclamation)
