He kept trying to see him

“But Herod said, ‘John I beheaded. Who then is this about whom I hear such things?’ And he kept trying to see him.” (LK 9: 9)

It doesn’t matter what the reason was—curiosity or admiration—the most important thing was: “he kept trying to see him.” It happened several chapters later (in LK 23: 8-12). He expected Jesus to show power or to perform miracles, but Herod didn’t recognize in Him the Savior of the world. Sometimes we expect from Jesus things different from His mission.
