Children of your heavenly Father

“But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.” (MT 5: 44-45)

Our dignity and our new identity, “children of our heavenly Father,” directs us only to two simple things: to love and to pray. These are simple directions, although extremely challenging: “love your enemies” and “pray for those who persecute you” because Our Lord “makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.”

“I give you a new commandment: love one another as I have loved you.” (Gospel Acclamation)
