but our very selves

“With such affection for you, we were determined to share with you not only the Gospel of God, but our very selves as well, so dearly beloved had you become to us.” (1 THES 2: 8)

When we are in a relationship, when we want to be really close to our relatives and friends, we are “determined to share our very selves as well,” because the most important part in a relationship is love. The essence of love is a gift of self. Who loves gives her/himself.
