But I say to you.

“You have heard that it was said, You shall not commit adultery. But I say to you, everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (MT 5: 27-28)

“It was said,” and “But I say to you”—the difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament moves responsibility from our actions to our hearts and our thoughts. Maybe the action wasn’t taken, but our heart was involved and some plans in our head were created. Our Lord protects both men and women from being apart from true love.

“Shine like lights in the world, as you hold on to the word of life.” (Gospel Acclamation)
