we fast—you take no note of it

March 8, 2019 6:00 am

“They ask me to declare what is due them, pleased to gain access to God. ‘Why do we fast, and you do not see it? afflict ourselves, and you take no note of it?’” (IS 58: 2-3)

Sometimes our fast is empty, has no deep insight or meaning or is not recognized by God. Our fast is a spiritual practice to open our eyes and hearts to others, to open our lives for others, and to change our lives from serving ourselves to serve others.

“Seek good and not evil so that you may live, and the Lord will be with you.” (Gospel Acclamation)
