Treasure in earthen vessels

June 14, 2019 6:00 am

“We hold this treasure in earthen vessels, that the surpassing power may be of God and not from us. We are afflicted in every way, but not constrained; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying about in the Body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our body.” (2 COR 4: 7-10)

We are sometimes so upset with our “earthen vessels.” We forget that this have some important reasons: “that the surpassing power may be of God and not from us.” We are not living for ourselves; our lives have a better and bigger purpose—“so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our body.” We are His children, and we are invited to “shine like lights.”

“Shine like lights in the world, as you hold on to the word of life.” (Gospel Acclamation)
