they are in peace

“The souls of the just are in the hand of God, and no torment shall touch them. They seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead; and their passing away was thought an affliction and their going forth from us, utter destruction. But they are in peace.” (WIS 3: 1-3)

We celebrate today the Feast of All the Faithful Departed when we pray especially for our relatives who are gone. We miss them, we remember them, “their going forth from us, utter destruction,” but today’s liturgy reminds us that “they are in peace.” They have met God, Who is love, and they are much closer to us than we can imagine.

“Come, you who are blessed by my Father; inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” (Gospel Acclamation)
