The food that endures for eternal life

“Amen, amen, I say to you, you are looking for me not because you saw signs but because you ate the loaves and were filled. Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him the Father, God, has set his seal.” (JN 6: 26-27)

Holy Communion is not food for our bodies but is food for our souls, “the food that endures for eternal life.” It helps us grow in our relationship with Our Lord and with our brothers and sisters and is the beginning of “eternal life.” When we, as often as possible, receive Holy Communion, it helps us also to keep away from sin, fight against temptations and see our brothers’ and sisters’ needs. We anticipate eternal life.

“One does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.” (Gospel Acclamation)
