the desert

“At that time Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil.” (MT 4: 1)

Very often we have identified “the desert” as a place dominated by the devil, a place where there is no life, a hostile environment which only wants you to die there. But there is also another way to see the desert—as a place which leads you to the Holy Spirit Who gives you a lesson about God’s Word, Who is a nourishment for us about God’s providence, His protection, and about worshipping Him. We are living in a hostile environment where there is no respect for the sacrament of marriage, where many times divorced people don’t understand why we prefer to take care of our relationship instead of making a career, and where a culture of the company provokes infidelity and love affairs. We can feel like we are in the desert, but when we remember that the Holy Spirit was present at our wedding, the same Holy Spirit Who always leads us to be closer to God and to love each other in the most beautiful way, then we will come home stronger, more faithful, and more loving.

“One does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.” (Gospel Acclamation)
