Prayer: conversation with…?

March 29, 2014 9:26 am

“Two people went up to the temple area to pray; one was a Pharisee and the other was a tax collector. The Pharisee took up his position and spoke this prayer to himself… But the tax collector stood off at a distance and would not even raise his eyes to heaven but beat his breast and prayed…” (Lk 18:10-13)

“Went to the temple area to pray”. The same time, the same purpose, different prayer. One “spoke this prayer to himself”, the other “at a distance and would not even raise his eyes to heaven”.

It is not enough go “to the temple area” to call this act a prayer. Even there we could forget to worship Him.

“If today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts” (Verse before the Gospel)
