Listen to him

“While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them, then from the cloud came a voice that said, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.’” (MT 17: 5)

I found recently, inspired by some author, that we can create another word with the same letters we need to write “listen”: “silent.” To listen carefully, to understand the message, we need to be silent. When we are in a silent mood, we can understand the message; we can focus on the other person. When we continue our internal dialog with mistaken patterns of interpretations, there is no chance to listen to somebody. Even to God.

“From the shining cloud the Father’s voice is heard: This is my beloved Son, hear him.” (Gospel Acclamation)
