John is his name

“So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called. He asked for a tablet and wrote, ‘John is his name,’ and all were amazed.” (LK 1: 62-63)

Today less serious. This is probably the first official announcement about the new tool: tablet; before any computer company. 😉 Now tablets, phones, e-ink readers, and all kinds of electronic gadgets are in our homes. First, it is good to remember that the main purpose of these tools always should be communication. It is good to have some of them, but the reason for them should be that we want to use them to make our relationship stronger. Second, it is good to remember that we can use them when even our extraordinary ways of communication do not work: “so they made signs asking his father…” So finally, “he asked for a tablet and wrote…” First, communicate in person; second, communicate with “signs”; third, communicate with tools. These forms of communication are always and only just tools for good or for bad—our choice.

“You, child, will be called prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way.” (Gospel Acclamation)
