He went up on the mountain by himself to pray

“Jesus made the disciples get into a boat and precede him to the other side of the sea, while he dismissed the crowds. After doing so, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When it was evening he was there alone.” (MT 14: 22-23)

Liturgical prayer is very important—the holy gathering when we celebrate Our Lord’s life and mission. But also very important is our individual prayer when we listen to Him and we accompany Him. Sometimes it takes time and effort: “made the disciples get into a boat,” “dismissed the crowds,” and “went up on the mountain,” but it only shows how important it is.

“Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.” (Gospel Acclamation)
