He did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him

“All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’ When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home.” (MT 1: 22-24)

Again we have another example of being obedient—St. Joseph. He could have had his excuses; he could have had his conditions. But instead of disregarding God’s will, he “did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him.” This is why we need to be close to him, to be in a very strong relationship with him, to learn from him how to listen, to learn how to “fulfill what the Lord” plans.
