But if it dies, it produces much fruit

“Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.” (JN 12: 24)

Naturally, we are afraid of dying—this is an end of everything. But from Our Lord’s perspective, dying is not about dying forever, it is only about dying of our ego, dying of our self-concern and selfish choices. God, Who is Love, and Who created us in His own image and likeness and wants us to love, and knows perfectly, that our egoism blocks us from being in love; if our egoism dies, will produce much fruit.

“Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life, says the Lord.” (Gospel Acclamation)
