As the Father has sent me, so I send you

“Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” (JN 20: 21-23)

We are sent because it is God’s will, not ours. It is not about being worthy, about our dignity, or about the merits we have collected in our lives. It is not about our strong faith—look at the example of unbelieving St. Thomas.  It is Our Lord’s decision: “As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” With the assistance of the Holy Spirit, we are sent to proclaim the forgiveness of sins and peace.

“You believe in me, Thomas, because you have seen me, says the Lord; blessed are they who have not seen me, but still believe!” (Gospel Acclamation)
