“I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.” (JN 6: 35)

God’s love is so detailed. He takes care of what is so important. He created us and called us to live forever. He is life and love, and He protects what served both. The same happens to us: we protect those who we love. We take care of them. We work hard to protect them, to give them what they need, and we love them.

“Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.” (JN 6: 27)

It is good to remember that our work has a bigger meaning. It is not only to have “the food,” but is also “for eternal life.” We must put all our hearts, minds, souls, and strength to add as many values as possible to change this world (my profession, career, and service) into a better place for everybody.

“Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have.” (LK 24: 39)

We know how important our bodies are—to express our love and express our bond, love, and relationship. Our children depend totally on our protection, on our gentleness, and on our affirmations. Our spouses need to be in touch with us. Our Lord comes to us in Holy Communion in His body; whenever we come to the Holy Mass, we can hear priests saying: “the Body of Christ,” and we answer: Amen—“it is true,” “let it be so.” And He comes to our hearts and stays there to be connected with us and to be united with us.  

“Lord Jesus, open the Scriptures to us; make our hearts burn while you speak to us.” (Gospel Acclamation) 

“When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they began to be afraid. But he said to them, ‘It is I. Do not be afraid.’” (JN 6: 19-20)

Our Lord is always with us. especially when we are in an unstable situation, like being on the water. He will always comfort us. We have different waters in our lives: our jobs, neighborhoods, pandemic, etc. Please remember that Our Lord, His grace, and His presence are always first; difficulties, temptations, and problems come later. God is always first.

“One of his disciples, Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, said to him, ‘There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what good are these for so many?’” (JN 6: 8-9)

Philip and Andrew answered the same question: “Where can we buy enough food for them to eat?” Philip didn’t see any option to do it; Andrew pointed “a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish,” however, he also saw difficulties with that solution. We used to see problems from two points, like a glass of half of the water: almost empty or almost full. But there is another solution—look for a source of water, not to a vessel. The vessel is limited, source, like a wellspring, unlimited. When we see problems with Our Lord, we see solutions; when we see problems alone, we always see only a part of the solution.

“The Father loves the Son and has given everything over to him.” (JN 3: 35)

Everything is created by love. God the Father loves the Son, Son, loves us and died for us, and we, loved by God, love each other, and create the civilization of love and life around us.

“You believe in me, Thomas, because you have seen me, says the Lord; blessed are those who have not seen, but still believe!” (Gospel Acclamation)

“God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. (JN 3: 16)”

God doesn’t want for us a good life, even life in abundance, but “eternal life.” He wants us to be with Him in Heaven, to live for eternity in love and His presence. Whatever we do with love, whenever we are a gift of selves, free, creative, and joyful, we are coming closer to Him and to a lifestyle that will be ours forever.

“And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.” (JN 3: 14-15)

We do not have to worry about our redemption. It is not our role. It is Our Lord’s mission. Our role is to keep a strong relationship with Him, to believe in Him.

“Amen, amen, I say to you, unless one is born of water and Spirit he cannot enter the Kingdom of God.” (JN 3: 5)

We receive the Sacrament of Baptism (“of water and Spirit”), and we took care of our children, so also they also receive that Sacrament. And we hope that also our children will do it for their children. This is our basic responsibility to enable “entry to the Kingdom of God.” But, also, when we live daily like “born of water and Spirit,” expressing our love to our spouses by gentleness, respect, and gift of self, we are coming closer to “the Kingdom of God.”  

“If then you were raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.” (Gospel Acclamation) 

“Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” (JN 20: 22-23)

Today we celebrate Sunday of Divine Mercy. With the gift of the Holy Spirit and sacrament of penance, Our Lord can forgive our sins, and we can start a new life. Every moment when we decide to arise from the fall, every confession is a new beginning in our lives and is the victory of God’s grace. There are no limits to God’s love.
